Pointers and indicators

10.10.1 Dashboard

When you sit in the driver's seat, the so-called instrument panel is situated in front of you. On this panel there are pointers, indicators and signaling indicators that fully reflect work of all systems of the car - from the engine and to wheels (in case if the system of monitoring of pressure in tires is installed in the car). The appearance of the instrument panel may change from model to model. But the basic pointers, indicators and signaling indicators are unchanged, and we will consider them below. Figure 10.14 shows an image of the instrument panel for example.

10.10.2 Tachometer

Velocity gage indicates the engine crankshaft speed. The beginning of the red sector of the velocity gage dial indicates for all gears the maximum permissible speed for the run-in and warmed-up engine.

Attention
Velocity gage point shall never fall into the red field of the velocity gage dial, otherwise there is a high probability of engine overheating!

10.10.3 Low temperature zone

While the point is at the beginning of the dial, the engine has not yet warmed up to normal operating temperature. Until the engine warms up, do not overload it with high revolutions and overload.

10.10.4 Working temperature zone

As soon as the point reaches the middle of the dial, it indicates that the engine has finally warmed up to normal operating temperature. At the increased loading of the engine and the raised temperatures of outside air the indicator point can deviate towards temperature increase. This deviation is insignificant until the warning symbol on the instrument panel starts to light up, indicating that the engine is overheating.

Attention
In case if you install any additional equipment, which prevents fresh air from entering the engine compartment, engine cooling may be significantly impaired.

10.10.5 Fuel gauge

The fuel range indicator allows to approximately calculate the volume of the remaining fuel inside a fuel tank.

Note
As soon as the point of the fuel level indicator is on a mark "0", the control lamp, which reminds of need of refueling of the car, will light up. The lamp lights up in order to indicate that there are 5-8 liters of fuel left in the fuel tank.

Attention
It is not necessary to allow complete emptying of a fuel tank, because in certain cases failure of the fuel pump is possible (greasing and cooling of the pump is carried out by fuel). Interruptions in the operation of the ignition system and the ingress of unburned fuel into the exhaust system are also possible. This is a direct path to the replacement of the catalytic converter.

10.10.6 Speedometer

It is designed for displaying the current speed of the car (in kilometers per hour).

10.10.7 Common indicators

The following are lists of the most common indicators and signaling indicators that are located on the instrument panel.

10.10.8 Actions in case of operation of indicators

	Stop in a safe place and contact the service station as soon as possible

10.10.9 Airbag system indicator

 This indicator lights up when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position. It will switch off in approx. 6 seconds. This determines the normal operation of the airbag system. The following signs indicate a malfunction of the elements controlled by the indicator circuit. An inspection of the car at the service station is required:

• when the key in the ignition lock is switched to the "ON" position, the indicator does not light up or is lit continuously;
• the indicator lights up or flashes while driving.

Attention
It is forbidden to repair or disassemble the airbag yourself. Self-repair or disassembly may cause the airbag to suddenly deploy or the system to fail, which may result in injury or death.

10.10.10 Engine malfunction indicator

This indicator indicates a malfunction of the engine systems or an excess of harmful substances in the exhaust gases. In case if the indicator lights up in the second case while driving, it is recommended to contact the service station as soon as possible. In case if the indicator lights up after switching the ignition off three times, contact the service station.

10.10.11 ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) indicator

 The ABS indicator lights on when the key in the ignition lock is switched to the "ON" position. In case of normal operation of the anti-lock braking system, the indicator switches off after a few seconds. In case of a system fault, the ABS indicator lights up again.

In case if the ABS indicator is lit (the brake system indicator is not lit), the ABS does not work, but the brake system is functioning normally. Thus, during emergency braking or braking on wet road surface, the wheels can lock and slide.

Attention
In case if the ABS indicator and the brake system indicator light up at the same time, it is recommended to get off the road and contact the service station. In this case, the ABS operation is disrupted, the car becomes extremely unstable when braking. Periodic activation of the indicator does not indicate a malfunction while driving.
