4.5.2 The device and principle of operation of the gas distribution mechanism
Nowadays, a valve-type gas distribution mechanism with an overhead valve arrangement is mainly used in gasoline and diesel engines. This means that the valves are located on top, inside the cylinder head, as shown in Figure 4.8.
Thus, in case of an overhead arrangement, the valves with springs and their fastening parts are installed in guide bushings in the cylinder head, in which the intake and exhaust channels are also cast.

The force from the cams of camshaft, which is located here - in the cylinder head, is transmitted to the valves using push rods and/or rocker arms. The rocker arms are pivotally mounted on an axis, which is fixed to the cylinder head. The cylinder head is covered with a cover.
