7.4.1 Description of anti-lock braking system
In case if you suddenly press the brake pedal in an emergency, the most unpleasant thing will be that the wheels are locked tightly and the car fishtails. In this case, no matter how hard the driver turns the steering wheel in order to avoid a collision, the car will not respond to these actions, because only the rotating wheel maintains normal traction on the surface. The locked wheel, on the contrary, loses all its traction. That is why in many driving textbooks in the old days it was advised in an emergency not to hit the pedal all the way and keep it in this position, but to press it alternately with a frequency that can be implemented by the driver. Technological breakthroughs in the automotive field have been used for solving this problem. An electro-hydraulic modulator was "cut" into the hydraulic drive of the brakes, and a speed sensor was installed on each wheel. What did we receive as a result of this? We received the anti-lock braking system. This system does not allow the wheel to lock in case of emergency braking, or rather allows, but not for long. Though this period is so small that it is impossible to notice or feel it.
