Gearbox (transmission) (speed-change gearbox, gear-shift mechanism) - obsolete terms, currently not used in technical terminology) (Chapter 5) is a mechanism, which is used in the transmission of vehicles with internal combustion engines. It is designed for changing the engine torque in magnitude and direction, as well as long-term disconnection of the powertrain from the engine (wheels or tracks). There are mechanical and automatic transmissions according to the type of control.
