10.7.3 Overrunning clutch
Note
Overrun clutch is a ratchet mechanism thanks to which thrust is transferred at rotation only on one side. Overrun clutch is a protection of the starter from forgetfulness and inexperience of the driver. The fact is that at the beginning of operation the engine gains idling speed, which can reach 800-1000 rpm. In case if you forget to turn off the starter, after starting the engine all the same 800 rpm through the flywheel will be transmitted back to the starter. This will lead to its inevitable damage. Overrun clutch will eliminate such deplorable consequences.
