7.1.1 The purpose of the braking system
We have already figured out how the car accelerates. Now the question arises of how to stop it, and stop it as quickly as possible, without losing control over it and with the least stress for the driver and other road users. For this, braking control was introduced into the design of the car. Brake control is a set of braking systems that are installed in a vehicle.
Following brake systems must be installed in cars and trucks:
- serving (designed for reducing speed, up to a complete stop of the car);
- parking (necessary for holding the car while parking);
- emergency (a backup brake system in case of failure of the serving brake system).
In addition, the following braking systems can be installed in trucks and buses:
- auxiliary (often it is a mountain brake, which is used during long descents);
- trailer braking system.
